Canadian Horses

West Gimlet Farms

We have been raising these fine horses since 1996 and have not been disappointed.
We use them for driving, riding both english and western disciplines. we have branded all day with them and they don’t tire out like the other breeds we’ve worked with do. We compete at Spruce Meadows “Battle” with them and our kids vault on them. They are great for logging and mountain trips, as well as pleasure riding. They also jump well. We feed our livestock in the winter, as well as attend cutter rallies with our teams of canadians, and have taken them in the Calgary Stampede parade.

If you are looking for a very versatile breed of horse with a great work ethic, and strong hoof and bone, you may be happy with a Canadian.

Canadians have long, thick (often wavy) manes and tails with longer feathering. On our farm they range in height from 14-17hh. Their feet are exceptionally good. Disposition within the breed is generally excellent! Most of them are black or brown/black, but there are chestnuts and bays as well. We, at West Gimlet Farms, raise and train our own horses, so we have all ages and levels of training to choose from. Some for riding, some for driving, and others for both. We stand at least one stallion per year, and sell a few choice young colts for stallion prospects. If you are looking for a great all around breed of horse, come take a look at West Gimlet Farms.

Mares

Marv-Ell King Knighthawk   Reg # (can)8504

9 Year old Canadian

Knighthawk is 16.1hh, black, and would be for an intermediate rider. He is broke to ride english or western.
He is also broke to drive. He has fed our livestock with another horse, as a pair. He has also been packed on a trip to the Yukon in 2006. This gelding has beautiful movement and would be suitable for dressage and possible jumping if a person so desired.

Gimlet Kuntakinte Negro

Reg # 11299

(Little Dragon)

Little Dragon is well broke to drive and has a fair bit of riding experience in both english and western. He has a good attitude and work ethic. He is also very kind. His conformation and feet are very good as well.
He is the only son of “Little Duke” who has competed at Spruce Meadows several years. He has also been all over performing at different events, been up to the Mountains on hunting trips, jumping shows, cutter rallies, feeding bales to livestock all winter, logging, branding...you name it! He is so capable and versatile and his son will be the same. They can take in new places and challenges very well. He is just an all around good and capable horse.
